Could You Survive 1945?
Year 6 are beyond excited to dig into our World War Two topic – many of us are budding historians and potential politicians keen to share knowledge, views and ask questions. We’ll be studying the causes of World War Two and the experiences of British people through to VE Day. We’ll be reading Goodnight Mister Tom and Rose Blanche, concluding our topic in the summer with an evacuation experience day on the Gloucestershire – Warwickshire railway.
We will be stepping up our SATs revision work before Easter and following all the hard work, will be heading off to Condover Hall for our residential in April – watch this space for photos!
Year 6 have had a fantastic start to the year. They are all becoming very mature and reliable young people, relishing the responsibilities that come with being the oldest in the school.
Our Topic this term is ‘Are We Expert Explorers?’. We’ve been enjoying reading ‘Journey to the River Sea’, which has taken us across the Atlantic to Brazil and the Amazon Rainforest. With that, we have compared the physical and human geographical features of the UK and Brazil and are looking forward to trying some coffee art after half term. We’ve been delving deep into the theory of evolution, learning about Charles Darwin and understanding how animals and plants have adapted to their habitats.
In PE, with been thoroughly enjoying playing Tri-Golf, designing, trialling and coaching in our own chipping and putting drills. We also sent a team to the trampoline dodgeball festival – a super 3rd place finish was the icing on the cake – an awesome day!
We’ve become quite the entrepreneurs too; having decided on some exciting end of year trips we’d like to do in July, we’ve been planning and holding some events to fundraise for the events. So far, we’ve held an ice-cream sale and are currently doing a staff car wash. Next half term, we’re planning a cake sale and movie night.
